The Purpose of Our Worship Sunday worship at Providence Church has two purposes: adoration and encouragement. The primary purpose is to give God the unhindered attention and adoration of His people as we pray, praise, and hear His Word proclaimed. By understanding more fully Who God is and our relationship to Him as His people, we are strengthened and encouraged to live worthy of His Name.
How We Worship Worship is not just the musical aspect of the service. Every part of the Sunday worship service is an invitation to worship as long as we are doing it to glorify God. We agree with A. W. Tozer that...
“Spectator worship has and always will be an oxymoron."
Providence Church bases all aspects of worship on the Word of God. Our purpose is to focus our minds on God and His character through corporate prayer, worship, giving, communion, and teaching. We blend traditional and contemporary music styles, understanding that the heart of the worshipper is an important aspect of worship, followed by Pastor Jim Bzdafka’s sermon which typically teaches through a passage or book of the Bible. We come together as a body with one mind - focused on giving glory to God.
Choral Ensembles
One Voice Choir All voice parts and age ranges (high school+) are included in this ensemble that rehearses throughout the school year and regularly brings their music into the worship service.
Seasonal Choir The seasonal choir exists for those who cannot commit to the One Voice choir schedule. This group joins One Voice for the Christmas and Easter Cantatas each year.
Instrumental Ensembles
Orchestra The orchestra season runs from September to May each year - with the primary performances being at the Christmas and Easter Cantatas. The orchestra is also used throughout the year to accompany One Voice Choir on special pieces.
Handbell Choir The handbell choir ministers during the Sunday service periodically throughout the year.
Brass Quartet The brass quartet enhances our worship services at different times during the year by playing for prelude, offertories, and other special events.
Worship Team
Sunday Worship Team Sunday morning worship at Providence is a blend of contemporary and traditional music. Members of the worship team volunteer their time each week to lead the congregation into a time of praise to our Savior.

Opportunities to Serve on the Platform
Worship Team Vocalist (commitment: one Thursday rehearsal, perform every third Sunday) As part of the worship team, vocalists lead the congregation in singing. Practices are on Thursday evenings and before the service on Sundays. An audition is required prior to participation.
Worship Team Instrumentalist (commitment: two Thursday rehearsals, perform every third Sunday) As part of the worship team, musicians accompany the congregational singing. Practices are Thursday evenings and before the service on Sundays. An audition is required prior to participation.
Special Music (commitment: Thursday rehearsal before each Sunday performance) The worship team is always looking for one-time soloists or small ensembles to perform special music during the Sunday worship services. This is especially true during the summer months when the choir and orchestra are on break.
One Voice Choir (commitment: Wednesday evenings, 7:30-9:15pm, August through May) The choir sings during the worship service about once a month. The ability to read music is not required.
Seasonal Choir (commitment: Wednesday evenings, three weeks before Christmas/Easter) For those who can’t commit to One Voice Choir year-round, the Seasonal Choir sings special music for the Christmas and Easter seasons. This is a great opportunity to experience choir and to serve the congregation during these special times of year.
Orchestra (commitment: varies, September through May) The orchestra performs for special services, especially during Christmas and Easter. The orchestra is directed by Corb Felgenhour, Providence’s Worship Pastor, and participation is by audition only.
Handbells (commitment: Thursday evenings, August through May) The Providence handbell choir plays during the worship service periodically throughout the year. This is a great opportunity to interact with fellow musicians, as well as bless the church body through music. Members must be able to read music or a simple rhythm chart.
Brass Quartet (commitment: varies, year-round) The brass quartet consists of one trumpet, french horn, trombone, and tuba. This group enhances our worship at different times during the year by playing for prelude, offertories, and other special events.
Serving Behind the Scenes
Worship Center Decorations (commitment: weekends as needed) The decorations committee readies the Worship Center for Sunday services. If you have a flair for artistic design and an eye for detail, you can use that gift to enhance Providence’s Sunday morning worship experience.
Audio/Visual Crew (commitment: Thursday evening and Sunday morning, rotating teams) These unsung heroes make our worship services come together each Sunday morning by providing lighting, power point, and sound assistance.
Video Production Team (commitment: varies, some weekday morning meetings) At certain times, the church must produce its own short media pieces. These videos enhance the ministry opportunities at Providence by letting the congregation know what events are coming up and how they can become involved.
Service Coordinator (commitment: rotating Sunday mornings) Makes sure Sunday mornings run smoothly. Church members with strong organizational and leadership skills are needed as “point people” for the services each Sunday.
Photographer (commitment: events as needed) If you have an artistic eye and enjoy photography, photographers are needed to cover events. Photos will be used in Providence literature, on the web site, and in videos.
