The Providence library builds up the body by offering wisdom and resources from other believers that can equip and encourage you in your walk with Christ. The Providence library offers thousands of resources ranging from family-friendly children’s books to theological commentaries, marriage resources to family-friendly movies.
The library is available for you whenever the building is in use. Materials may be checked out for up to three weeks. We hope you'll stop by! :: New Additions :: First, there are three fun, engaging, and spiritually challenging books by Eric Metaxas: Everything You Always Wanted to Know About God (But Were Afraid to Ask), Everything Else You Always Wanted to Know About God (But Were Afraid to ask), and Everything You Always Wanted to Know About God: The Jesus Edition. You'll find yourself swept into discussions about God's identity, the reliability of scriptures, and topics ranging from evolution to having fun. Oh yes, you WILL have fun reading any (or all) of these three books! In Scouting the Divine, Margaret Feinberg turned research into real-life adventure by delving into such Biblical imagery as shepherds and sheep, wild honey, and wine and the vineyard. She engaged in such activities as hanging around sheep and observing first-hand the work of a master winemaker to discover some remarkable truths behind God's choice of images. In addition, those of you with a green thumb will enjoy Delia Halverson's Growing the Soul which combines scripture with lessons learned and insights gained from gardening. For those who are grieving, three new books have been added. Traveling through Grief, written by Susan J. Zonnebelt-Smeegne and Robert C. DeVries, looks at the psychological and spiritual dimensions of grief. Both have "been there", and have plenty to share about the grieving process, healing, and moving on. What happens when one of life's greatest "up" men comes crashing down? Zig Ziglar had to experience this first-hand when his eldest child went to be with the Lord. Ziglar's Confessions of a Grieving Christian addresses the loss of a child. In it he shares, in detail, all the pain and turmoil that he experienced and how God's faithfulness brought him through. Paul Billheimer's Don't Waste Your Sorrows explains that "Except for sin, sorrow is life's most serious problem" and offers perspective on sorrow and emotional pain, and how the experience can be used constructively by the believer. For those looking for general reference or devotional literature, Rosemary Jensen's Living the Words of Jesus offers scriptural passages that address principles, promises, and commands of 96 topics pertaining to the Christian life. We also have added Alistair Begg's edition of Charles H. Spurgeon's classic Morning & Evening. We haven't forgotten our teens! Mary Kassian's Girls Gone Wise in a World Gone Wild offers teens with a challenging study of Proverbs 7. Kassian argues that "...it's not just the over-the-edge, single, college-age girls who qualify as Wild Things" and offers practical ideas to "...help you say yes to God's ideas about womanhood and no to the tremendous pressure to conform to the world's pattern." Finally, for those craving a good tale of adventure and imagination, look no farther than Ted Bell's The Time Pirate. In it, Nick McIver, who owns a time machine, finds himself fighting in both World War II and the American Revolution while coming face-to-face with a ruthless pirate who will stop at nothing to get McIver's machine. |
