Missions

Providence Church seeks to spread the gospel through reaching out to our community, educating our members about missions and encouraging their participation in two strategic areas; Domestic and Cross-Cultural Missions.  To find out more information, or to get connected in either one of these two mission fields, email missions@providencechurch.us.

Domestic Missions

Domestic Missions at Providence Church is focused on having an impact in two geographical categories.  The first category is targeted on a local influence in Lorain and western Cuyahoga County.  Here, the goal is to mobilize the church body to minister to local residents in tangible ways.  Through Vacation Bible School, distributing clothing to families with financial burdens, and providing education and counseling services to the community, Providence’s church family seeks to reach the community for Christ and bring them into our fellowship so that we can begin the journey of Following Christ Together. The second category of domestic missions focuses on locations beyond our immediate impact area, that stretch from our local borders throughout the United States. Providence sends teams to inner cities and other underprivileged areas of our country in order to share God’s love and Word in practical ways.

In the past, Providence Church has partnered and participated in a variety of domestic missions projects.  Below is a list of a few ministries Providence is currently engaged in:

Love INC
Love In The Name Of Christ (Love INC) brings Christian churches together, across denominational lines, to help the poor by meeting immediate needs such as food and clothing, to longer-term responses through relational ministries such as life skills training and transitional housing.

Nursing Home Ministry | O’Neill Healthcare Bradley Bay
Providence Church seeks to follow Christ’s example by forming relationships with those at Bradley Bay Health Center. Twice a month, Providence attendees bring the residents of Bradley Bay a church service which includes music, a simple message, and a time to visit and encourage the residents. They aim to share God’s love by fostering friendships with these men and women who are in dire need of attention and care.

Cross-Cultural Missions

Providence Church supports those who are fulfilling the Great Commission overseas.  We support missionaries and missions work in Kenya and a number of Central Asian countries.  We cross cultural boundaries locally through ministries like International Friendships which brings the message of Christ to international students studying in the Cleveland area.  Finally, we encourage and support members of the congregation to take part in missions efforst outside of the United States.

Everett and Carolee Jones (Kakamega, Kenya) | Mission to the Fatherless

Mission To The Fatherless was founded in 1993. The vision of this ministry is to rescue orphans and abandoned street children from a life of abuse, disease, starvation, or poverty. Mission to the Fatherless supplies children with a loving home environment, food, education, and medical care. Children are raised in a family setting centered around biblical values, helping them to become useful citizens as they grow into adulthood.

Central Asia | Cru

In 2014, Providence began supporting missionaries to unreached people groups in Central Asia. These missionaries aim to provide leadership training as well as encourage and support the transition of leadership to nationals. Plans also include adding new house churches in unreached areas, training leaders in MC2 (Multiplying Church Community), and offering training sessions for new church planters. It is the hope of these missionaries to present the gospel to 140 young professionals, have spiritual conversations with 300 young professionals, and share the gospel with 400 university students.

International Student Ministry | Partnered with International Friendships

The International Student Ministry at Providence, in partnership with International Friendships Inc., serves international students at Lorain County Community College. Coming from all around the world,  many of these students are eager to discover American culture and step inside American homes. The International Student Ministry seeks to establish loving, personal relationships with these students while offering genuine friendship, hospitality, practical assistance, and opportunities for interested internationals to learn about the Bible and Christian beliefs.
